Born in Narsinghpur, Madhya Pradesh, India, in 1969, Lakhan Lal Sahu completed his schooling and graduation in Mathematics in his hometown Narsinghpur.

In 1993 he was selected as a scholarship student of Madhya Pradesh Government, for the study of Dhrupad Vocal in Guru-Shishya Parampara. Lakhan Lal was trained under the tutorship of Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar, at the “Dhrupad Kendra” of the Ustad Allauddin Khan Sangeet Accademy in Bhopal, for a period of four years, from 1993 to 1997. During that time he also accompanied his Ustad at various prestigious concert venues.

After his graduation from “Dhrupad Kendra” Bhopal, Lakhan continued the training for one more year, as an assistant of his Ustad, in Bhopal, in the year 1998.
In 1999 he came to Mumbai and settled, after his marriage with his German wife Gabriele Yogeshvari, in 2000 at Palaspe Village, Panvel, Navi Mumbai. There he is concentrating on his personal Riyaz, staying near the “Dhrupad Gurukul Palaspe”, founded by the elder brother of his Ustad, the Rudra Veena Maestro Late Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar. Along with his own deeper studies of Dhrupad music, under the guidance of his Ustad Z.F. Dagar and Ustad Bahauddin Dagar (son of Bade Ustad, Zia Mohiuddin Dagar ), he started to give performances of Dhrupad Vocal Recitals, as well as teaching his own private students in Mumbai.

For the year 2000 Lakhan Lal Sahu was recipient of a One-Year-Scholarship by “Dr. S.R.B. Patel Trust”, Mumbai.
From the year 2001 onwards, Lakhan started travelling with his wife to Europe and performing his Dhrupad Vocal Recitals at various venues, spiritual festivals in Ashrams, and for great souls/Mahatmas at different places in India and abroad.

Additional to presenting his art on stage, Lakhan Lal Sahu is interested in forwarding the precious knowledge he did receive from his Ustad, by means of teaching. So he is conducting Workshops and Lecture Demonstrations in India and abroad. For the promotion of Dhrupad Music, he did also found a Registered Public Trust, “ANAHAD Sangeet Seva Sanstha”, in 2004.
The institution is organizing regular Music Programs to give a chance to listen to Classical Dhrupad recitals in public. Especially the younger generation of upcoming artists, in the fields of Dhrupad Vocal as well as Instrumental, gives the stage to present their art under the banner of Youth Festivals.
